Deuce Markings

Does anybody know exactly how many, type, size, location, etc. of markings that are needed for an m211 or m135 deuce. I contacted rick larson about them and they are pretty spendy and i'm still not sure what size the hood numbers should be 2"or 3". What kind of front and rear bumper markings are there? If anybody knows where I could get some good examples or the markings or locations where everything needs to be I would really appreciate it. If you have a pic of one of these trucks I would love to see it. Thanks.

j land,
Both would be awesome. Some pics would really help me out so I can see what is written on the truck and where at. The only measurements I would probably need is how tall the letters on the truck are in various places and how big the stars are. Thanks in advance, it really helps to have people like you that take the time to help FNG's like me.<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_approve.gif" alt="Approve">

Hello, new guy here. I just acquired a 6x6 that might help you out. It appears to be pretty much original with paint and markings intact. No motor or trans. I don't have it home yet, but I do have a picture that might help. I joined the forum and hope to be here often. I will e-mail you the only pic I have. Later, Brian

6Gears,
I would love to see some pics of your truck. Right now i'm working on my M211 and I have no idea where and what markings should be on it. It's a 1954, and I think i'm going to paint the old girl WWII semi gloss, it seems like the correct color from what I hear. What are you planning on doing with your deuce?

An old thread but I am looking for markings and trying to find out what they mean.

Here are some different ones I have seen.

I am currently working on sanding one of my M135's to find hood and bumper numbers.

The bumper as you are looking at it reads:
4G 3868 1-HQ-41

The hood is:
4G 3868

On the 4G 3868, the G has been painted over an A at some point. I'll take a picture of this and if it shows up, I will post it.

I would like to know what these numbers mean and would like to see what numbers some of you have found.

4G3868 is your registration number for the vehicle. It doesn't really have a civilian equivalent so it's kind of hard to explain. It's like a second VIN but it's not stamped anywhere on the frame. It's assigned by the Army and it's just painted on (and hence someone can just paint over it although that's not supposed to happen).

5A-816 O is probably the 816th Ordnance. You'll have to do some google research on the unit to find out if it is a company or battalion. 5A is probably 5th Army.

I'll leave this up to someone else. I thought you were looking for your own projects. I can't even see the markings on two of those pictures and on the third, they do not appear historically correct.

I am looking at my own projects. The first four pictures I posted are one of my trucks. The three after that are a friend of mines. The last three are examples that I have found and was hoping to see others so we can find out what is accurate or not since it doesn't seem like many people know what markings are supposed to be on the old G749's.

CARNAC, can you point me to where I can find information on markings? Thanks for letting me know that last picture does not appear correct. That is the kind of information I am looking for as well as what the different markings mean.

I also thought by posting up pictures of markings, we can get an idea of what is needed for restorations since many of these trucks are missing their military markings now either due to age or people removing them.

Here are some more marking on a truck that belonged to another friend of mine.

Yep the one in the above post would help and the one in the link here. Make sure to look at the references in the back of the manual which will provide additional information.

Also you maybe working this from the wrong direction.

This is a similar situation I addressed concerning radios in WWII jeeps. The question is not what radio did a WWII jeep have but what unit do you want to represent? Same situation here. Don't ask what markings are correct for the bumper but what unit are you trying to represent?

These are the only markings on the hood of one of mine that I could find after doing some sanding.
100_2419.jpg100_2418.jpg100_2416.jpg

It is very faint but I could see that at one time it read US ARMY 3G3868
100_2417.jpg

The front bumper is 4G3868 1-HQ-41...very faint.
100_2421.jpg100_2420.jpg

Under the hood has this.
100_2424.jpg

I don't understand why the truck number changed from 3G3868 to 4A3868 and finally to 4G3868.

CARNAC...I wanted to ask again if you may know what some more numbers mean. This is off of one of my M135's that I am going to restore. The pictures may not show the numbers very clear but this is what it says.

Hood - 41143???
Driver Side Front Bumper- HQ-47

Passenger Side Front Bumper 2-

Driver Side Rear Bumper- 1 53F

Passenger Side Rear Bumper - HQ 47

Does that tell you enough where you might know what unit or what it means? There are also some other numbers painted underneath what I can see but I can't see them well enough to know what they are.
