Deuce Seating Position

The worst thing about the Deuce I am purchasing is the seating position. I'm 6' 5" and somehow I remember a lot more leg room when I drove these in the Service, many moon ago.

My knees have to bend to an unusual and surprising angle to operate the clutch and the brake.

I spent a few minutes experimenting with the various adjustments, and so far the best I have come up with is the seat bottom all the way up, the seat cushion forward, and the backrest in the middle position. Since the vehicle was not yet mine, I did not get crazy changing the existing owners setup.

I'm sure a lot of you guys are also big. How do you handle the Deuce seating on a long drive? I anticipate some long runs, four hours or more, so this is an issue I would like to address without signing up for yoga.

It looks like if I can replace or modify the seat back, I can pick up an inch or two of leg room. The seat back would have to be 'thinner'. I'm told that earlier Deuces had thinner seat backs. Maybe this is what I remember? Mine is a 70 Kaiser M35A2.

I put a chunk of 6X6 under my seat to keep it in the up position that helps me a lot. I am only 6'1" though. I will not take credit for this idea though as I read it here somewhere first and it has helped me a lot. I did by a air ride seat to install but have yet to put it in and play with it yet.

My Deuce has the spring seat and, from the various threads I searched, the box seat offers more legroom.

On one of those threads, someone asked if you can swap the passenger bench and the spring driver's seat. That would definitely give a bit more leg room. The question was not answered, though - does anyone know if this is feasible?

I don't suppose there is anything you can do to the pedals? My feet are size 16 4E and it is easy to get caught up.

Wow. Id like a bit more room too but for my front mounted "shed". The old box seat w/o back cushion worked pretty fair but the edge made hamburger meat of my back

I am 6' 4" and with my spring seat i have not had any issues but more room would always be nice. GimpyRobb put some different seats in his truck, i a not sure how much room you could gain but they are more comfortable.

You can always find someone willing to swap the older seat setup for your springer seat. I like the older seat because of the storage space under the seat, but it is definitely less comfortable.

The seatback cushion is twice as thick as it needs to be. Thats 2" and the pedals are also adjustable. The box seat helps a bit but at the sacrifice of ride dampening.

Now we're cooking. How do the pedals adjust? I assume you readjust a stop underneath and then readjust free play.

That and a thinner seatback cushion might do the trick.

Im interested in pedal adjustment too! A thought, would a fiberglass racing bucket mount to a spring or rigid base? They have slider kits to put under them dfor shorter/ thinner drivers.. just a thought

My 5 ton pedals were much taller than my deuce's which caused me to have the same problem: the steering wheel is in the way of my clutchin' knee forcing me to move my knee between the wheel and the door. The pedals I think have 3 notches in them allowing maybe two inches of adjustment. I determined how much take up there was and elmininated it by adding an extra notch. It not only allowed me to use the pedals while not having to cock my knee out to the side but it significantly reduced my pedal travel. It might also work for your deuce.

That sounds good. I'll have to see if my Deuce has the notches. I have the same problem, trying to swing my knee sideways between the wheel and the door. Knees are not hips, though: they only bend one way.

Today I had a few minutes to spare so I moved the pedals using the notches. There are three notches on the clutch and brake pedals. With a 9/16" you can remove the cinch bolt from underneath and wiggle the pedals down. I did not pick up as much as I would have liked (this adjustment moves the pedals closer to the floor) but it is a good step in the right direction. I can understand why some have had to add their own, fourth notch. Tomorrow I will see if operation has gotten better. BTW if you look in the manual you will clearly see the notches. I have a feeling that the default adjustment was for the highest pedal setting.

Deuce seating problem

Hey Plym, Did you say size 14E on the foot size? They ain't feet, They are skies, might even be good for water skieing. Awfull hard for trucking. We had a couple Abnormaly sized wanna be drivers for the guntruck Satan's lil Abngel when we built it and we changed the steering wheel to one from an 816. It worked pretty well. Even Lt (6'5" somthing) could get his lanky a-- behind the steering wheel. We also retained the spring seat padding so regular sized drivers could drive with out rupturing any disks in our back. I also didn't loose my auto steering lock. Of course, I could hold the wheel off a 151 with my belly so maybe I would not be a good example.
