Deuce Speedometer going nuts

This happened in an old chevy of mine...I assumed that friction caused the cable to bind for a moment, then when it released, it sped up quickly, to catch up with the rest of the cable. I took the cable out of the sleeve, coiled it into a jar of grease, then reinstalled. Never another problem.
