Yesterday I was re-tightening the lugs after finishing up the hub flip and I used the hand throttle to push the idle up a little to help out my impact gun. When I finished I pushed the throttle back in and the engine died( no stutter, just instantly off). Cranked it back up and it idled fine. Later on I took it out for a test drive everything was working working great until I went to turn off of the highway. lift off the throttle, push in the clutch, engine dies. The same thing happened again on my return trip when I turn off of the highway on to my street.

I have not messed with the injection pump (aside from bypassing the fdc and that was a while ago).

Joel, the engine dies when it doesn't get enough fuel or air..doh, so check filters, low idle setting and shut off mechanism, well you know all that.

Check the spring loaded linkage thoroughly and maybe the hand throttle linkage was kinked and is now straight and letting the idle return to a false low. Also check to see that the shutdown cable is fully in...

anyone have a pic of what the throttle linkage is supposed to look like? (mine has endured some serious redneck engineering)

BFR - I know this is an OLD thread, but what fixed your problem. I have a M35A2 with similar issues. High rpm, push in clutch, and rpms drop low (200-300) and sometimes it stalls. If it doesnt stall, the RPM will go back to idle (800rpm or so on this truck). The truck will idle and drive under power fine. It cruises 58 without a problem.

If I remember correctly it was the shutoff mechanism on the side of the IP. Once I took off the cover it was clear how it had "jumped track" so to speak.

Thanks guys. Will do, I need to remove the pesky heater to get to the IP. Going to change fuel filters and check pressure as well.

Well it is not the shutoff linkage.

New secondary filters and plenty of fuel pressure. I also checked the idle screw and throttle linkage to be sure they were ok. I need to get a primary filter tomorrow, this truck has the primary spin on so I didnt have a spare filter in stock.

I was thinking about bypassing the FDC to see if that might help. Keep in mind, this problem just started on this truck in the past 2-3 months. It still runs great at idle and under load, but **** if it wont stall when I push in the clutch at 2000 rpm ( and let off throttle ). Under 2k it will drop down to 200-300 rpm and recover before it stalls. Idle is set to 750 rpm.

Edit: It will stall when not in gear if I rev the engine to 2000 rpm and let off the throttle. Weird.....
