To add protection for your starter switch install a diode as shown below.

if diode is placed in said position, he MIGHT have issues, unless you're one of the followers of "electrons move from ground to power" (sadly im not kidding.....) simple drawing mistake i take it? but good idea none the less if you ask me

It's a routine application to allow the stored energy in the relay coil to "recirculate" instead of arcing across the switch contacts when the switch opens.
Found this with a little googling to show a similar scheme on an aircraft starting system.
A Varistor can also be used.
