I have had my M35A2 for about 5 years now and it has always ran great. The problem I have with it is that when you try to start it you have to turn it over a longer then my other trucks and when it starts it runs rough for about 5 seconds then it is fine.
After it is started and ran a little you can stop it and restart it and it starts right and runs fine. But if you let it sit for a day or so and start it, it will run rough for about 5 seconds and then it is fine.

I would like to get the fixed and I was thinking it maybe leaking prime from one or two of the cylinders.

Should I start with pulling the injectors and have them checked or do you think it is the IP pump or the hydraulic head?

I do turn on the main power and let the pump run a little before I try to start it.

I wouldn't doubt it's at the cylinders unless you see them leaking while running, most likely the filters or lines before the IP, sounds just like your loosing prime , first thing I would check is make sure lift pump is running then follow lines all the way to secondary's , look for dents or bad spots and take extra time at your filters , good luck

It sounds like air getting in. Try turning the power on and waiting 5mins. This will give the in-tank pump(are you sure the in-tank pump is working? Maybe the bottom fell off) time to push the air out. If it starts like normal after a 5min wait, I'd look at you fuel line fittings or fuel filter gaskets.

It has done this from day one. I am sure the fuel pump is working, I get fuel out if I open the bleeder on the secondary filters.
I will try the 5 min test and see how that does.
Thanks for the inputs.

Could I be losing prime from the ip pump to a injector?

I tried running the fuel pump for 5 min., no change in the way it starts.
It turns over and kicks off but it runs rough for about 5-10sec. then it is fine.

Have you ever had the injectors pop tested? It could be an injector doesn't pop right till it gets going. When is the last time you have had a load in the truck and made her work? I find that helps mine run better.

Would you be willing to try something else for smitts and giggles. You will need a friend or a remote starter button. Take off the shut down cover and you will see the control assembely and rod. Have friend turn on master to get intank running. You hold the control linkage in the full forward pisition till it can go no farther. This will be about 7 oclock or there abouts. Have friend hit starter or you hit the remote and see if she will fire right up. Just don't forget to let go of the control when she starts as it will be full fuel.

I will try the things listed. I was thinking of getting the injectors tested and see if that helps and what they find.
Not sure when but I will work on it.
Thanks for all the info. and things to try.
