There are the old school tail or turn sig lights, FD's used to cut out the front and glue is a reflector lens to make a full face light, pre Gamma Goat lens. My M211 came with them.

This, I found a few articles where the older cats eye lens were cut out, and a lens inserted for more light- it removes the function of black out lights, but certainly made the lights more visible for us civilians.

Back in the '60s & '70s, the surplused MVs used the so-called cateyes. Like my M37 & M211/135s. Also many others. They had a durable cast aluminum housing that was water proof/vibration proof, with BO/cat-eye lens. The cops didn't like them much because the cat-eye was pretty small. Somewhere much more recently a plastic aftermarket full lens became available that lends itself well to roadwork, but not much else, unless they are mounted in a well protected spot.
