Deuce transmission issue

I bid on a duece on ebay (120703059812). I noticed from the pictures that the 5th gear indication on the dash plate was Xed out with paint. I asked the seller about it and he reponded that the truck has a fifth gear but it seems lower than 4th gear. Is it possible to reverse 4th and 5th gear during assembly of the transmission? Any one have any other explanations?

That's what i'd guess.

Looks like the data plate for the 3052 direct drive gasser transmission. Also shows 60MPH ad top speed.

Well compared to any other truck 4th and 5th are swaped . The shift pattern is 4 down , 5th up . Id bet he dont realize that and is use to civilian trucks .

any medium duty i ever drove ( thats a lot of trucks ) were the opposite pattern between 4th and 5th gear . I still have to think when im in the deuce .

I took this data plate off a gasser deuce.4th is were 5th should be.

I bet with a little research (very little) he would have realized he had another gear.

I bet a PO swaped in a OD trans and didnt upgrade the data plate.

Simply said, the Overdrive transmission used with a multifuel and the non overdrive transmission used with a gas engined M35 deuce, have 4th and 5th gear positions reversed from each other. Hmm does that sound simple?

I bet you are right!!!
My 4th is on the bottom of the plate and 5th is on top of the plate.
Looks like a nice truck!
