deuce wont start??????????.

just got euc on this truck...fuel pump fuse burned..didn't have another fuse so I tin foiled the fuse after ruling out a dead short..., pump runs,,,fuel pressure on filters at filter drain ....but engine won't start..???....tank was empty...do I need to bleed air out of the system?..... some corrosion in and around the tank fill filter screen can,, like some kind of dirt,, tan mud,??????.....any ideas on what to do next../?...boost pump regulator valve..????..."SOMEBODY HELP ME".................................................please.

if there was no fuel in it you have to bleed the system. if you have the time all you gotta do is turn on the electric pump and wait. if your in a hurry then just go from the pump and start popping the press reliefs on the filters one at a time till they are all full again. then it should start. I've also used ether to get it to run till it pulls fuel again. I only did this once when my elec pump was dead.

If it still won't start after bleeding the filters, check for delivery at the injectors by looseneing a line. If none there, there's a box lookin' cover on the lh/rear of the pump that the shut down cable goes into. 2 screws and it comes off. See if the little lever inside is stuck in the no fuel position...just make sure it moves back and forth and isn't stuck. That's the only reason mine didn't start.....well dead batteries too!

After checking the fuel shut-off. If that's fine....if not spray a little WD-40 in and work it back and forth. Remember forward is RUN, back is OFF. After that if still nothing.....Unhook the return fuel line on the side of the secondary filters. Turn on the power.....is fuel coming out? If not follow your lines from the filters to this point find out where you no longer have fuel moving....If you do...hook back up and loosen an injector line. Getting fuel there? If not, and you are getting fuel to the hydrualic head of the IP I'll say maybe the same problem I just fixed on my M52A2. Everything checked out okay on the head. Didn't work. Took it off and the "button" on the bottom was bad. Replaced, been running fine since.

Good advise fellows, glad you got your running Joseph. The "button" on the bottom, heh, need to check that...

There is a bleeder screw on top of the secondary/final filter bracket.

where is the fuse for the fuel pump
On top of the pump, under a small cover held on by 2 screws.

Bjorn, After doing every check that was possible (w/o taking everything to pieces) the "button" was all that was left. TM 9-2910-226-34 page 2-4 Unfortunately in order to check it you have to do "some" tear down work. Even though everything was still in there and it was moving up and down as it should it was not doing its job. J, k, l, m, n, p were there but not in correct position. There are (2) of k. The bottom of #4 was well worn as a result of the "button" breaking and the following disassembly of the parts. I ws lucky that nothing else was harmed with those pieces "floating" around in there.

Bjorn, I forgot to answer regarding the button flattening. With this one I believe "k", the keepers, somehow came apart. Once that happened everything fell apart. I could not tell what made this happen. Since everything was there and looked fine, except #4 due to wear it was the only conclusion I could come up with. Perhaps after years of use or whatnot the keepers had worn some play in to #4 and given the right conditions were able to come free.
