Talk about reviving an old thread! Way easier to pull the head and push the piston out than swing an engine. Don't hone the liner, it has a coating called "luberite" on it. If you remove it, the cylinder will burn oil. The cover on the side of the block is referred to as the hand hole. When the engine is used in things like boats, cranes, dozers, work is done on the engine from that hole...NOT fun. There are also a bunch of different oil fill/dipstick options that fit there.
