DIfferential bevel gear removal

Im trying to remove the bevel gear from helical pinion shaft and im not having any luck. it doesnt seem to budge when i put the press to it. Any tips or something im missing?

Are you using the spacers like the picture shows ? You need to use them as the gear can get wedged into the housing if you don't. Also this gear can take a lot of persuasion to come off. Are you using a 20 ton press ?

I did try with some aluminum spacers about 1/4" thick on each side like in the picture. I am using a 20 ton press. I have the ability to run 2-20 ton jacks but don't know if that will make a difference.

Try heating it while under tonage? I tried to get one apart and gave up! Thos are no joke to remove.

Well i was honestly just taking it apart to clean it really well and didnt want debris to get into the bearings. Maybe ill just leave it be and spray it with acetone and air really well and call it good.

You have to use spacers and your 20 ton probably won't do it. My 30 ton wouldn't do it and I had a 4' long bar on the hydraulic ram. My machine shop has something absurd like a 50 or 100 ton press and I had to farm it out to them. They said they had 2 guys pulling on a long bar and when it broke free, it sounded like a shotgun.

You never want to use heat on a part that you want to reuse. Those are "hardened" gears and the heat will cause them to loose their temper. It's been a while since I removed a set at the shop. We had a 50 ton press and it would do the job.
