It's not as hard as you think. Set the engine on blocks at the front and jackstands on the rear motor mounts, take off the externals, heads, manifolds, etc. Stand it on the flywheel housing, strip the engine of pistons, cam, etc. 2 guys or 1 guy and a cherry picker can lift the engine, let it down slowly so it rolls onto the deck. put in o piece of plywood so it won't mess up the deck. Remove the flywheel housing, out comes the crank. Lay a new crank and re assemble in reverse order. I used to do it that way when I was a big moon lighter on 855s and L10s. If we have more than 3 engines out at a time, since we only have 3 stands, we still do it this way. I also think it's faster than doing it in a stand!
