I was wondering if HMMWVs / m998s pass emissions tests? Is 6.5 L any better than the 6.2 L engine as far as emissions go? Going by the pictures on GP, I did not notice any of the HMMWV m998s with DPFs. Anybody put a DPF on ? Thank you in advance.

I have seen several 6.2s in HMMWVs that had emissions labels and some with a label stating they are exempt. The exempt label is one of the reasons they are being sold as "Off Road Use Onle."

A 6.5l on a 95 and newer A2 has a catalytic converter so it could pass in theory. Most states don't have emissions rules for 1997 and older Diesel engines anyhow but it still doesn't matter because the GP hmmwv you want to buy cannot be road legal and talking about that will get you the ban hammer.

It's going to vary by state...

But AZ made me emissions test my 1985 m1009 CUCV. I'm not sure what's worse- the fact they made me test it, or the fact it passed...

AZ is stupid easy to pass a diesel emission test. Half the time they don't even hook up the machine when testing my tdi's... Blows a 0.00 opacity when I see it spew coal.

That's not the case. There's another reason for sure. AM GENERAL for some reason. AFAIK all my big trucks have an exempt label on their engines.
