Does having a Turret add more value to the HMMWV? Turret owners... Could you live without it?

I have FINALLY located a turret support. However, the price is so high, that I am forced to ask..... Is the juice worth the squeeze. I have an m1045A2. My favorite HMMWV and I am still giddy like a kid when I see my truck. :) I am aware of the issues with a turret leaking and believe I can resolve that. However, what I am looking for is some real world opinions from people with turrets as to what their thoughts are about having one and if they believe they could envision being without it. Especially when there are so many 11XX trucks being released where a turret support isn't necessary.

I still cant imagine, someone not being able to machine the 10xx turret support part and produce it in mass to bring the price down and essentially present this part to the civilian market. Now I wonder, is there any legal issue with manufacturing a copy of a demil'd part?

More importantly, for the Turret owners:

What are your thoughts on having your turret and could you envision yourself being without it?

Kind of hard to shoot out of without a turret.
That's why I bought the truck. If I wanted a HMMWV without A turret I would have bought a different varient.
The most important question that only you will be able to answer is.
When it comes time for you to sell it.
How much you want to get for it.
and who your going to be trying to sell it to.
The guy that's going to try and restore it.
Or the guy who is going to turn it into an after market nightmare.

obviously this is only my opinion .
It is your truck , and your money , and yours to do with what you want.
But a truck with a complete turret is going to be worth more then a truck with no turret .

I was going to get a shop to build one different but mount in same location, and take the same turret...
Thats back when a turret support was worth $ 850....Shop said $ 2250 ea.and I'd have to get ten ea.
Did not do it.

I love mine, the best addition I made to the truck. I use it for shooting, yes, but also for other things like sitting a skeleton up there and driving in our local Halloween fest parade. The kids also love to pop their heads out.

No turret support needed for the 1165 to my knowledge. I suppose the setup is completely different. It looks Great!!! Steve Did a GREAT Job!!! Congratulations!!!

$4k without brackets. Just the Support. No Hardware, No Turret, Nada.
Personally, I have been looking for a $1500 turret support for two years now to no avail. The big picture is that having a complete turret on your truck adds at least $10k in value. I would probably pull the trigger at that price. It would hurt like hell though.

$1500 roof support? $2500 roof support? Yea…that boat sailed many many months and years ago, $4k? Better jump on it…it is what it is, even the turret parts have dried up for the A2 trucks, many many of the guys I source parts through and normally have the hard to find stuff have commented in the last year they havent had the opportunity to even find roof supports as in years past, everything “Turret” has dried up and whats available has doubled Or tripped in price.

It seems cheaper to go with the 11XX roof if it will fit, likely wont. The 11XX turret setups don't require a turret support. It would seem the better choice. Are the 11XX turret parts as hard to find as the A2 turret parts?

It wouldn’t be cheaper, but parts are more more plentiful and can be ordered as it’s current production parts.
the 11XX sill uses a “turret support” just not like the 10 series trucks…that 11 series support has to be used in an
11 series aluminum roof.

Will the 11XX Roof fit the A2 Truck?

Is the 11XX Turret better than the A2 Turret?

yes, a hmmwv is hmmwv, any hmmwv part will fit, as long as you have all the correct parts that go with a alum roof, but than you have to figure out what to do with rear C pillar support Area, the C-pillar is different.

you can install a new style turret into an older Slantback roof and support, you again would need the roof support anyway.

Also...A M10xx series turret can go in a aluminum roof with same adapter for M11xx turrets .

I have one, but I actually use it for the various guns I use from it. If I didn't own brownings and such, I wouldn't own one, just no need for it. And it's one more place for rain to leak in.

I'm curious - do you have any drawings of this turret support? I haven't been around enough HMMWVs to know what they look like or how big they are.

One thought I had was finding a 3D print shop with a big enough metal 3D printer to just make one - probably wouldn't require a minimum run either being the nature of additive manufacturing.

I could have sworn the aluminum 11XX roof was several inches wider than the 10XX trucks as they are ECV series trucks. And thus the wider roof would create gaps in the door fitment.
