Drag link ball joint threads

Does anyone know if the ball joint threads for the tapered fitting at the ends of the drag link are M20 by 1.5, or 3/4 16? They are so close I can't tell. My boots are torn up and I have new boots to replace them with but try as I might I can't get the stupid thing out. Tiger tool makes a nice little capped off nut thing you screw onto the thread and give it some good wacks to get it out but I want to get the right one

Can’t help you there, but put some down-pressure on it and hit both sides of the taper at the same time with a couple of BFHs. Should pop right out.

The #9 nut is part number DIN937-M20X1,5-22H-A3L

So I'll go with M20x1.5

Yep, they're M20x1.5 and if you're interested, the tie rod is 7/8-14....because that makes sense.

Wheelspinner has the ticket. You need a bigger hammer (don't hit the threads). You can heat up the tapered part a bit.

Just did mind a short time back and removed the complete unit.

After removal of the carter key and nut I sprayed it with PB Blaster a couple of times and let it sit for a hour or so. Came back and beat on the side of the knuckle (just like wheelspinner said) that the rod goes into and and used a pickle fork (like simp5782 said). Left the pickle fork wedged in place and hit the side of the knuckle again and it popped loose.

Smack the mating tapered ring on the knuckle, etc with a BFH. You don't hit the tapered, threaded shaft itself. You want to slightly oval (elastic deformation, not plastic deformation) the mating ring with a BFH to break the rust and tapered fit.

On my 2008 they damn near fell out with the nuts removed. My boots were all but entirely gone. I posed the part numbers for the urethane replacements a while back. They are cheap off Summit.

Thanks for all the advice! A Swiss machinist friend of mine is making me a piece similar to what tiger tool sells that screws onto the nut and then you hit it. I think I have a pickle fork somewhere though I'm not sure if it's big enough. Also does anyone know where to get the protective boot that goes over one end I believe it protects it from rocks and stuff I think it goes over the little flexible boot

Not familiar with the protective boot your taking about...I'm assuming your not talking about the grease cup.

Do you have a picture of one?
