Drip rail question???

I've noticed that some 84-86 Chevy trucks & CUCV's have drip rails and some don't? Is there some practical reason? Were the drip rails bolt on or welded on? My M1028 doesn't have them and I think it looks, well cooler this way. I was just querious ..

My civilian 1984 and 1985 C20 and C30 crew cab trucks have bolt on rain rails . I figure that the drip channels were left off military trucks to lower cost or match specification requirement. Some hot roders remove rain channels for looks. Mark

my 81 chevy c20 had them and I acquired a set from a junkyard suburban for my m1008. no more snow in the seat when you open the door
