Direct answer to question… your HMMWV is a DS2.

Only later model civilian units use DS4.

DS4’s suck. With PMC availability running low, all DS4 units will start looking to convert to DS2. PMC’s are prone to failure, making the engines and tranys stop functioning.

Thanks for responses.

So in summary HMMWVs (military) use mechanical IP (DB2) versus Hummers (civilian) which may use electronic IP (DS4 plus PMD).

This is attractive to me as I would think mechanical more reliable (simple) and easier to maintain or troubleshoot.

Would assume mechanical may suffer at cost of some ‘efficiency’ at cost of fuel mileage/horsepower versus computer controlled.

With the aerodynamics of a brick and the weight of a bull elephant and differentials and hubs that create between a 4.92 and a 5.97 final gear ratios, these units will never be efficient.
