Dummy load?

I use a used heat pump HVAC air handler. It works great. Most units have one two or three heating packs in them. Each pack is basicly 5kw each . The first run with my 802a worked great on the first bank but then I was so excited that a GovPlanet 802a was running and generating I forgot the second stage of heat started when the timer timed out and brought in the second pack (now 10kw). Never thought I moved so fast to shut it down. My 802 did not like 200 percent.

When I first hooked up my 3 ton ECU I didn't have any of the heat strips disabled. According to the diagram that put's it around 9.6kw.

It took the load, didn't open any breakers or anything, and the gauge read right at 100% load.
Frequency however was way below the gauge, probably in the 35-40hz range is my guess.
That was before I looked and saw how much power the heat strips actually draw (my mistake) and was just going off of other people saying a 10kw gen could pull 4 of these in aircon mode.
Fortunately nothing failed on me, so I got lucky.

Coug is correct. I'm thinking that when you pull too much current the engine tries to make it but not enough horsepower to make the 1800 rpms so it slows down to where it will do what it can. The real issue is with over current the windings heat to a point to melt the varnish off the coils. Be carefull to load your maching. 130% for a test but not a run. These units are over built but not indestructible.
