Depends how bad you want it, how nice it is, how far it is, how many miles, which model, etc...

That is a pretty vague question, but I would say bid what you are comfortable paying for it. You can never go wrong with that method. If you're comfortable paying more than the next guy, you might win and you'll always be happy. If you lose it and you're not OK with that because you would have gone another X dollars to get it, then you didn't bid what you were comfortable with.

If you are looking for pricing guidance, I would say do some more homework and inspect plenty of trucks before you bid hard and watch what they bring. That way you have an idea of where you should be.

According to David Doyles' book, An M51A2 W/W has a value of between 1800. and 29k for a pristine...not so rare. An 817 W/W, 1500 to around 29k..again, not so rare. A 929A1 WO/W, 3500 to around 36k, a bit more rare to see. There is also the M930 W/W...same as the 929, but with a winch.

I am selling this for 13,000. It’s a 1970 with a multifuel engine. It’s in very good shape and has a winch. I don’t know for sure but I’m told the winch option is worth around 7,500. I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m off :? I am also concidering a trade for a duece a bit newer with a trailer. Maybe this will help you out and maybe me to :)

Nice looking multi... I'm not sure a winch is worth an extra $7500! , but it is certainly worth more than without.

Personally, I usually figure about $1,000-1,500 for a winch. Some guys don't want them no matter what the cost, though. I know that sounds crazy to most...it affects the angle of approach and departure if you are using the truck in severe off-road settings. My opinion is that $13,000 is too high for an M51A2 when you consider I sold this truck for $14K and it had been completely rebuilt 4,700 miles earlier. Plus, it was a rust-free USMC variant with the singles and lockers. I should never have sold that truck! aua

Well, you see the guys at Oshkosh *advertising* them for $20K. I'm not sure how fast they move those high priced trucks or if they get their price. They certainly don't from most guys in the hobby. Their customers are probably commercial. At $20K, they can probably make over $10K on that truck, since they didn't even pay hobbyist prices for it in the first place.

Oshkosh will never never sell to a hobbiest, I mean NO hobbiest would ever pay that much period, 6 is fair , a multi is not worth as much as a Cummins, Any company can put any price they want on there web, but that does not mean its going to sell for that, U may get lucky, and I hope U do, but I almost fell out of my chair when i saw the price, sorry...Randy

BENDAWG: I am not sure what to suggest as far as doing your truck up is concerned. It is a really nice truck as it sits. I was only throwing it out there about what I got for my old M817 that was absolutely cherry. I was a fool to sell that truck. Now, if you can't use your truck easily for what you want to do, then it sounds like it makes sense to move the truck to get another one. By the way, the bed of a deuce is lower than a 5 ton, but it is not that much lower. In other words, you are going to be hurting the next day if you try to load 400 cinder blocks into the bed of either truck. Personally, I'd stick with your nice dump. The dumps are rare...and only getting more rare as they are purged from govt inventory.

Thanks guys. You know I thought that 20k was a ridiculous amount for one of these things. But the funny thing is you see how they have sold like 20 of these dumps at 17 to 20 grand. I don’t know how they do it either but its right on their sight. So I figured well mine has to be worth 13k. Or at least 11k going by them. I do think I’m going to keep it now unless I get a real mint deuce with a trailer. I will just start looking for a tag along trailer now. Are the 6 x 9’s the only size? I mean besides the 18 wheeler types. I would like a nice 6 x 18 or so. If anyone has a lead on one please let me know. If they only come in a 6 x 9 that will do. They are lower than the dump a lot right? By about 2 feet or so?
