Easy upper spur gear replacement tips (12k)

any tips on replacement? I've read where u can do this without pulling spindle but warhorse said you had to. Any truth to this?

I printed manual and seems straight forward just would like some input, thanks.

The teeth of the both the drive spur gear and the output gear are meshed and although they could slide out of that situation, there are bearings pressed onto each end of the spur gear and the outer bearing hits the driven gears teeth when being pulled towards the opening in the hub body so you need to at least remove the spindle nut so you can slide the spindle out enough to allow the driven gear to drop down about an inch or so. At that point, you may as well install a new spindle seal and upgrade to the later type lock nut, because old seals don't like being messed with.
