When I was a physics undergrad, we had an emeritus professor who was old as the hills. He gave a talk about electrical safety, describing how whenever he was working with an electrical experiment on the bench with his right hand, he always kept his left hand tucked into his back pocket, or gripping his belt in the small of his back.
If he's going to take a shock, it's preferable that he just take it across his hand, rather than across his chest.
