engine fan always engaged ?

The engine fan on my truck is either stuck on or never comes on. when the engine is shut off I can't turn the fan by hand and when the truck is running it never gets above 175-180 any ideas?

My 923 fan is always on. I have yet to troubleshoot it. Got to be a bad fan clutch or the air switch is stuck open.

It might just be that the engine isn't working hard enough. The engine will never get very warm at idle unless you cover the radiator. Even running it at 1,000 RPM won't get it hot enough to open the thermostat.

Even with a heavy load mine doesn't get above 190 even pulling a hill on a warm day. I suspect that it has to do with the cooling system being sized for a heavy load on a 125 degree day....

Could be that diesel engines dont run as hot as gas engines, too. You have a truck that was spec'd to carry 10,000 lbs up a 60* incline in mud.

The 809 series DOES NOT have a fan clutch, it's direct drive, 175/180 is about where it will run, my 819 goung down the road at about on tack RUNNING hard never goes over 190.

Mine runs about 200 on the gauge, but I think the gauge is lying to me. I am gonna purchase a laser temp gauge and check it.

If you're running 175-180...No worries! BUT, you might want to check all your belts tension and condition just for safe measure.

Ya I was just trying to figure out why it was always spinning I'm use to my gravel trucks just screaming going up hills

Actually a quick look at the fan and you can tell there is no clutch. Pretty straight forward desgin. Fan blade bolted to a hub. 180 is great, mine runs in the same range even on hot day

Well it depends on which model truck you for the fan to turn constantly !! The M809 Series has a direct drive Fan and the M939 Serires has a Fan clutch that will stay off untill it get to the high temp setting and then kick in and if it turns all the time then you have either have a bad temp sensor or the fan clutch is stuck closed !! Because the fan should not turn until it reaches the high temp setting then it should kick in and draw the air through the radiator for cooling. As well you could have a bad or clogged air line going into the fan hub to operate the fan clutch. Good Luck troubleshooting ??
