The easiest way for me to tell is look at the oil pump drive on the back of the motor (where a distributor would be on a chevy gasser) it should have a tach sending unit bolted to it, if the bolt holding it down is on the left (drivers side) it is a 6.2L if it is on the right it is a 6.5L, also look at the left valve cover, if it says GEP it is likely a 6.5L
