What color were the engines when they were installed into the M1009's new at GM?

This is a picture of my truck when it had 2,189 original miles. I'm going with black as the others have said. I also know that when you get a new GEP 6.5 in a can, it's going to be all black with the exception of the aluminum intake and all the red and blue plastic caps in the openings. I've done quite a few motor swaps in HMMWV's for the GA Guard.
