Gentlemen,
i want to show you my last project....a new enginge stand. The cheap ones from Harbour Freight , ebay, aso aren't worth the money.
So i decided to make my own.

I like your idea but I disagree about Horrible Freight. They are worth the money for what they were designed for, but certainly not a MF engine. ;-)

This was the stand i got from ebay...it was cheap. I bought it just for storage, not for work. But it can't manage the weight of a 351 Windsor....i'm pretty shure that not ONE part can handle 1250lbs....

I'm sorry, i don't think so. The stand manage the 450kg from the 6BT easily...i guess 600kg is noc problem. But more?
And yep, that's exactly what I said...the cheap one is sold as a 1250lbs heavy duty stand and can't manage the 700lbs from a Ford Windsor. Scrap.

I was thinking more along the lines of the HF being rated for lawnmower engines. I know I have seen a small block V-8 on mine but not a complete engine.

After the issue with my HF engine hoist I doubt I would trust their stand with much more.

First thing that comes to mind: "overkill"... but then immediately followed by "peace of mind" ...!:)

Still remembering my thoughts and concerns years ago, while working on my first MF, on a so-declared extra-HD engine stand, this one not from HF!, but still questionable at best.














All good but now you may have to explain to the board what that 6BT is doing there...!?;-)

What is not to like about this stand? Nothing. The brake is built stop it and how could you not like the rotating system.

My Brother got assigned to a new cell and is getting trained on running big and newer CNC lathes at his work and would love what you did with this.

I even like the color.

I had the pleasure to first visit Steve in his shop in FL, and then a few years later, Jürgen in his place, in Germany...: Some of you may already know, but for the new folks let me tell you: these two, with their machines and skills - they are dangerous, at least!! Just imagine if they would join, making parts...!:wink:[thumbzup]

Gentlemen, a little update.
The torsional stiffness of a double T isn't the best. I know that, but i hoped the massive bracing would solve the problem. But it doesn't. With the 990 lbs from the cummins i got a noticeable sway (imagine the vertical double T as the rotatinal axis) .
Just to explain...the double T was laying around and the prefered rectangular tube not.....
Not really bad, but i wasn't happy with this situation.
The solution are two 5/16" steel plates laser cut and boxing the double T.
The effort was worth it. It's now PERFECT :) (very big smile)

thank you! To be honest...i have no idea. The 990lbs are easy, no drop / bend under load. I would rate it 1500. With this kind of engine mount the lever is very long....

I have a 2000 pound engine stand that I put a 6.0 powerstroke on. It weighs about as much as the cummins you are working on. All I have to say is i was pretty nervous with how much the engine would sway while I torqued bolts. I was excited to get it off of that stand.

my 1250lbs ccc stand collapse if you only LOOK at it with a SBF on it. Even after i welded everything together :)

This is what i really like....i can move the enginge stand around with a pallet jack.

@WS I do my very best :)
