What do you all think may have happened here. M816, sitting 2 years. I put two hot batteries in it, hit the starter and clunk. Wont turn. I hit it 20 more times and notice the fan is moving. Hit it 20 more times and finally starts to turn, but by now batteries are low. Charging now for another attempt tomorrow. Rust on the piston bore? Hydrostatic lock? Kinda nervous about this, not my truck. All terminals tight, warm but not hot after all this abuse.

I had a bad starter act the exact same way on my cat loader. I thought it was hydro locked (whole other story). Pulled all the glow plugs, bumped the starter and still only a few degrees revolution per hit, grabbed the fan, spun over by hand. Pulled starter and bench tested fine, pulled it apart and it was completely fried past rebuilding.

Take a big pry bar to her, if you can get her to spin just a little it may be a dead spot in the starter from sitting. I had one truck exactly like this and the starter was at fault, bad everything from age. Worst case situation is two valves were left open and the rings are rusted to **** not giving you good odds to fire it up as-is.At that point you know the drill... pull the injector, pour something to soak in it, time, and prybar. I had 2 trucks like this as well. Give me a call or text if I can help.
