Ether Valve-solenoid replacement?

I took my ether assist start valve and solenoid apart yesterday in attempt to fix it. Well the valve is in perfect working order, but can't say the same for the solenoid. The solenoid is toast, dead, seen better days, pushing up daisies. IS it possible to buy just the solenoid part?
I also seen somewhere on here about using a propane tank for starting.I read that it wouldn't screw on. I can confirm that it screwed on perfectly without and trouble. I also pushed the push rod from the Quick Start valve and it worked perfectly. So is it possible to use a much cheaper and much larger propane tank on cold starts?
Thanks for any and all advice!

I think I noticed a few of them sitting on the garage floor at Wheelspinner's yeaterday.

Right behind where I spilled diesel fuel...

9 results on ebay with a search for "ether valve".

One as low as $17.
