The extension came in today and yes the holes are oversize, I have some 2" strap that would work but will go to ye-ol steel shop next week and get some 3" I need some angle for the tail light adapters for the S-788 mounts anyway.

I ended up using a piece of 3X1/4" flat for the missing plates, thanks to Greg (86humv) who had a partial install kit with many of the DO_DADS that make the job easier and looking better, it took allot to clean this NOS extension up, it was covered with welding splatter that was simply painted in place and there were also several pieces of wire attached from the welding process, must have been a Fri afternoon job.

I decided to move the roller fairlead back under the extension, I have a 12K Mile Marker electric winch to go back here.

Now if I can just get the dang trailer off of the old Knuckle Truck I can install the S788 shelter, this sat in the pasture for about 5 years and now I cannot get the 5th wheel to unlock, Jeez it's always something.

I missed something… Rolling fairlead on the rear? I don’t see the winch.

You might drive the 18 wheeler a few miles to loosen the rust to open up the fifth wheel. Probably worth spraying it down with penetrating oil first.

Yes the winch will be mounted later but this was the time to mod the fairlead, I have some longer bolts on order where the mount attaches to the suspension and need to order some copper cable.
I already went through the half can of PB blaster I had, heading to town in the Detroit to get some more.
The Knuckle truck is no longer street legal so a very limited area to drive in.

Might I suggest some firecrackers or small length of primer cord to shake the area up to help open the knuckle? A big hammer might do too much damage. Back and forth while turning the wheel might also loosen up the fifth wheel.

If I could get to it with a BFH I would BTC out of it, this truck has a utility bed on it so access the the 5th wheel is VERY limited, as the 5th wheel is actually mounted in a "well"

Got it! that P B Blaster is some good stuff!, soaked it down then chalked the trailer and rocked it back and forth for a while.
Now I have to lube it all up and connect the trailer again so I can park it, THEN I get to see how many cylinders I need to rebuild on the knuckle crane, one of the down riggers is leaking already.

FYI. Primer cord used carefully can loosen a boat propeller. It can probably also loosen a fifth wheel using less than 4 -6 inches of cord and a long fuse or long wired igniter.
