Fall Camp Dirtbag

Well, I tried to make it... got the deuce as far as the 91 fwy (about 5 miles from the 55) at about 17:00 in Friday's stop and go traffic (knew I was in for it - leaving at 15:00) when the brakes decided to apply themselves - even when I got off the pedal. By the time I got over to the shoulder, the drums were smokin' hot. Even after shutting down and draining the air tanks, the pedal was still rock-solid at the top of travel. After bleeding some BFS from the (newly installed three weeks ago) air-pack, it only got a bit softer. When I discovered I still had DJ Freema's number in my mobile's list and gave him a call, he suggested cracking one of the wheel-cylinders' bleed-screws (to relieve the pressure), and that did the trick and "un-stuck" whatever was stuck (thanks again Devin). Of course while I was under there, I see that my transmission has puked several quarts of gear-oil all over the underside of the truck, and it's so hot that you couldn't leave your finger on it for more than a couple seconds (I guess it didn't like all the stop/go work). After about an hour for everything to cool down (and realizing I was still 90 miles from camp), I decided that it wasn't to be for me this time, and drove the 25 miles back home instead. Guess I'll be spending this weekend doing a bit more PM instead. Really wish I could'a made it this time; hope you're all havin' a great time and good weather too. Hope you're taking lotsa pictures!

Home safe. Uploading pics and video to my computer now. Anothergreat time! Good to see new faces come out even while we were missing some. Several trips to the mine, great food, lots to drink, parts swapping and the best campfires EVER.

Dirt Bag 2010

I really don't know were to start.
I just rolled in I was the last to leave from this board anyway.
A special thanks to my Buddy Joe who always stays to do the last bit of cleanup.
Seems we were taking out a few more things than we brought out, doors, propane tanks and some kind of burn't up tire. I hope we can try and keep the place cleaner than we found it.
We did strike it rich when we found a brass mine at the far end of camp. Funny place for a brass mine but very little digging was required to pick it up.

I missed the shovel weenies but did enjoy the flaming donuts. I believe we have a new tradition.

I saw a lot of great people and I think that there is still a small bit of hope for the left coast.

Karma is a funny thing and when you have a run in with it your in for a suprise. This weekend was no exception. Bad Karma normally leaves a mark and it sure did this trip with me. My Dogma got hit by Bad Karma.
I'm still smiling. Thanks guys.

I forgot to set my watch back Sat. night and my alarm clock was an hour late in going off on Sunday morning. Hope you ladies heard it.

I saw WWl under WWll's truck around 1:00 good thing we have a few wrench turners in the group. I hope Hole made it back . I didn't see him on the side of the road.

Just got settled down. Had a relativley easy trip home. After all the putting around Hole had a small brake issue when we were hooking up the trailer. The LF wheel cylinder took a dump, we had to cut the steel line and pinch it over...now I know some other parts I need to put in the truck. We were almot to the pavement, doing about 25-30 and I had a LF tire blow out. It sent me all the way to the left side berm, then I got it straightened out and stopped. Tell ya what, that woulda been bad thing if it were to have happened at speed!

I didn't take too many pics, but i'll get the ones I did take posted up prolly tomorrow.

It was a good turn out, as DUG says, good to meet new faces, missed seeing old friends.

One of the new guys here, MET1, Gotta say thanks again to you and your wife for the help with the wound. I unwrapped it tonite, looks good, no infection. It is a good size hole! And the guacamole! OMG, that was some good stuff! If you can't get the fuel line to stop leaking, let me know. We are gonna make a trip to the bone yard to get some fresh front tires so you can pick up a set of fuel lines off of one of the "fresh rebuilds" in the cans.

Hey duffman, your flashlight ws inside a chair, Met1 has it, he's gonna PM you.

Hundy's 5 ton is pretty cool! Got to putt it out to where we got cel reception, drives real nice! Pictures don't do it justice.

Phil's truck is another way nice 5 ton!

I saw your flag along the I-15 shoulder around the 395. It didn't hit me until the top of Cajon Pass that the mount looked like what your set-up was. Sorry it was to late to retrieve.

Wish I would have known Hole needed a wheel cylinder - I carry one with me.

Rear main is leaking pretty good now - looks like the tranny is coming out soon.

Did anyone get pics/video of the quad assulting the flaming doughnut? I tried to tell Duffman about what he missed and he thought I was kidding. I told him - "We don't kid about flaming doughnuts at DIRTBAG".

I had the same problem. it was my master cylinder. changed it out and no more issues!

BLK HMMWV, all I can say is you ROCK! I hope we can get that issue resolved and start those get togethers back at LC. Your genorosity is uncomparable.

WillWagner, thanks for the info and taking a look at that leak. Kim is handy to have around when our bodies develop a fuel leak. She had a blast. I plan on taking the little one out the museum, soon hopefully. Let me know when you are heading to the boneyard. I know a couple of breakfast spots in the area where we can meet. Im looking forward to it!

hole, I appreciate the tips on driving, or more accurately my thumbs appreciate it. The convoy to /X was great!

Hundy, thanks for the pack and other items. I enjoyed the trip to the hole in the dirt. I hope your son recovered from that F-14 flyover. I have about 20 pounds of quarters to feed those machines if you bring them next time. You certainly contributed your mark with the flaming donuts ( and I do like my donuts )

Bad_Carp, thanks for the tour of your motor home. It makes it much easier to talk Kim into one, now that she has seen what they can be made into. Your Army friends were very hospitable. Please thank them again for the extra love they gave me.

Duffman1993, I have your flashlight. Ill shoot you a PM and get it back to you asap. Next time, Ill throw an extra chair in the back so you are a little more comfortable.

Thanks again for the good time. Thanks for the 5 gallons Jim, made it to the station and filled up, of course when I stopped for fuel I noticed oil on the left side of the truck.

I'll have to find out what it is but I made it home and safely put the truck in the back yard without taking out anything. Looks like I have a reprieve from my fun governor.

I learned a lot this trip about the dangers at any minute driving these trucks, I was behind Will and Hole and saw Will dart over to the left and make a big cloud of dust. I''ll be stocking my parts kit base on the lesson from this weekend. A clean pair of shorts is a good starting point

Can wait for next time. Thanks for the bags.
