Feb 2016 state of Generator sales

For conversation sake, this thread really is for talking, moaning, and bitching about generators for Feb 2016.
Prices are on the rise. I do not know the reason behind it, but the surplus units keep rising dramatically. Even then add on the GL 12.5% fee, or the GP 10% fee, with the taxes. I guess they are being sold and used somewhere. I am looking at prices which are higher then buying from a private party knowing it runs, produces, power, and plain out all functions correctly. I guess its like any of the surplus items. It depends on what folks are willing to pay.

I have been seeing the same thing on most sales for the last 2 or 3 years. Also the number of surplus generators and frequency they are up for sale has dropped off to a fraction of what it was 4 or 5 years ago. Back then my local GL site would have batches of 3-10 KW generators 20-30 at a time 2 or 3 times per year, and smaller batches in between, now it is 2 or 3 at a time 2 or 3 times per year, or so. Also as you mention sales are often going higher (sometimes MUCH higher) than known running units are selling for online which makes no sense to me. In a couple of cases I have seen MEP-002a and MEP-003a generators selling for truly insane prices on GL, one typical fair looking non trailler mounted mid hours MEP-002a nearby sold for right at $4,000 a year or two ago, which is 10 times what I paid for mine from GL just 3 or 4 years ago.

Last summer I had better luck on GSA as prices where within reason.

I've have stopped buying anything. There is no way to break even on them once you put some time into making sure they are ready to go.

I agree. Gl set $500 reserves on the current mep-831a units. Crazy. Keep em!

I was amazed at a MEP-803A on trailer which sold for $5800 and add the 10% fee and then taxes on top of that.
