i used the tape that was suitable for diesel, i found in the gas plumbing isle at my big chain hardware store.

Tape is no good on a secondary filter fitting.

These heads can have two different style threads in the ports. NPT (pipe thread) or o-ring boss fittings. They do not interchange and will not seal.

I put a petcock on mine so that I could use the vacuum pump to pull fuel into the filter. Never had to worry about air bubbles- just let the vacuum pump fill the filter and then fire it off. It surges two or three times and then it's fine.
