Fiber vs. Copper crush washer

While changing the oil filters in my deuce, I noticed that the washers had not been included in the kit. No big deal. Upon removal, the previous filters were installed with copper crush washers. Being in a bind, I fabbed a couple up from some solid copper washers I had on hand. Later, reading the TM's, I noticed the part number breakdown for the filter kit listed a fiber washer. Hmmm.....

My questions to the community is one preferable to the other in this particular case, when not to use fiber, when not to use copper.

I found these online for $0.44 apiece online

Did it leak after you installed the copper washers ? If not then your good to go. The fiber washers where used since the washers where not always changed in the field. They can reseal better then copper. Copper has always been a "one time use" item. I know many reuse them, but if your read the TM's you'll see they are supposed to be replaced every time.

Thank you both for that reassurance.
"Since it doesn't leak I hope I'm good to go" almost made it in the OP. I was just wondering if there was any difference really.
