First legal M1008 ride

After a few unregistered 'short hops' around the area to cure my need to drive it, I finally got the M1008 registered today. Why? On a really cold day it starts better than my 6.5. Now that I was taking a legal drive, I could focus on other things besides the rear view mirror. Lots to notice!

With no floor mat, this thing is loud inside!

Engine sounds smoother when I really step on it...almost like a gasser.

People look funny at it. Stopped at the store, and a guy with a 6.5 turbo diesel with contractors body just loved it.

Once it hits 45, it tells me that is the sweet spot, and faster than that just gets louder.

Doesn't really rattle or wander....feels pretty tight for 85,000 miles.

Really good heater!

I like it, but it may be too tough a vehicle for my needs. I may be better off with a M1009 instead. I wish I could try a M1009 to see for sure...I don't want to cure my itch by buying one at GL and then waiting a long time to get a mystery vehicle. Hmmm...any M1009's around in CT I could get a ride in?

Let's see...no carpet, no headliner, no sound deading material in doors....Nope not loud at all. You can fix the loudness problem. Install some capet and a headliner get some sound damping for the doors and the rear of the cab. Then you'll be able to have a conversation in it. The M1009 are just as loud for all the above reasons.

The M1009 is much louder in my opinion, all the road noise off of the back tires and everything seems to echo. The exhaust exits near the echo chamber. I do have a cloth seat in my M1008, so that probably helps a lot. At least in the M1008 I can hear my phone ring..... In my M1009 I know I missed a phone call when I catch that little red light blinking. I love them both, they can eat crackers in my..... Glen

Very true, I added carpet and sound deading material to the floor of my M1010 and it is real quite inside now. I can play my portable radio that I have between the seats and can actually hear it at all times. Now my M1009 is loud and I have to wear a headset, but plan to add some sound dampening material soon. Maybe carpet, but I speed too much time going off-road so will likely not get any.
