Hey guys, have been diligently reading this forum and it's great! Appreciate the wealth of knowledge on here.

Anyway, I jumped in head first and won the GP auction on a 2008 refurbished M1123A2 2-door truck (see link to listing below). It's supposedly running looking at the videos etc. I paid 12k which is probably a little bit overpaying, but to get one that's running I figured an extra couple of thousand helped limit the risk a tiny bit. Also I wanted the USMC variant with a clean SF97.

M1123A2 auction won

Once the 6-12 month EUC/SF97 wait is over I plan to truck it home (have the paperwork lined up for tags/title no problems with my local agent that does all my other vehicles, they've titled clean HMMWV's previously in my home state).

It'd be great if the experienced guys here can take a look at the link and see if there's some glaringly obvious things I should get the ball rolling on sourcing parts for in advance?

I'm an ex helicopter mechanic prior to jumping in the pilots' seat, so pretty handy to do most of the maintenance short of an engine or trans rebuild.

I'm planning to keep it in the 2 door truck configuration. Obviously needs new glass, rag top and doors etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Looks pretty clean and I’m not seeing obvious leaks. The roof, new seats if you want, 24v license plate holders. Fluids are all easy to get.

183,xxx serial number is not from 2008. It went through a reset at Barstow in 2008 and got a new VIN tag stuck on it. Serial number 300,000 was in 2007 or 2008. Just to let you know some parts on that are older than you think.

Thanks for the reply, yep I'm aware of that, I guess my terminology is a tiny bit off. Fully aware that it's a 2008 rebuild date and not everything is replaced and that some parts are older than others. I am curious as to what the 2008 rebuild at Barstow actually does replace.

These outer cowl panels are fairly cheap if you do not like the looks of that patch riveted on. Just a bit of work to replace it.
Thanks! Pretty low on my priority list. But I used to do sheetmetal work on helicopters so have all the gear to drill out and cleco and rivet a new piece in down the road.

Keep it coming!

I suspect the rattle can lip stick will not stick well and will be an issue down the road. Hard to paint over carc with any success.
Thanks! I'm still in aviation so have access to the nice/nasty paintstripper when I do get around to paint work down the road.

Main focus right now is getting things back to mechanically sound as opposed to looks. From what I can tell it doesn't really look like fizz/corrosion, more just bad paint prep/work.

Based on what you guys can see for the soft top, do I need to buy a whole 2dr soft top with hardware?

If anyone has a 2dr soft top that converted to a 4dr I'd be interested buying your left overs if it's in decent shape.

Truck is a 1998, or 99.
Barstow has a shop that makes Data plates...they put A2 after M1123....there is no such thing.
An 11 series truck is an A2....but they don't put in on OEM plates.

Thanks. Based one one of the other threads of serial numbers vs years, I figured it was a 99.

When I get to the SF97 point I’ll request a manual form as previously suggested.

Thanks for the tip.

This HMMWV is in a very good shape. I was bidding on this one and lost bid to you at 12K. I left my office desk for 10 minute and came back and you won. Congratulations...

Guess I was just lucky with timing. I had it set for a max bid of $12,200.

there’s looks like a few more running/clean 2 doors coming up soon in CA.

The market is pretty unhinged right now. If it actually starts, runs, moves and stops, you paid a fair price.
