First Time on GL

What is the procedure to get cleared to pick up the lots you are the winnig bidder on Ive been on the site and registered for about a year really new at the GL stuff reading the stuff on the site can get a little confussing I could us alitte insight thanks

If the item requires an End User Certificate you fill out the paperwork and go into a holding pattern until the powers that be give you a clean bill of health. Once the EUC clears and you get a paid invoice you make an appointment at the site where your item is located at and then go pick it up.

For a non-EUC item you get the paid invoice and make the appointment and then go get your item.

Buying from GL can really scare the heck out of you the first time. After you get one or two under your belt you'll get the hang of how things work and it will be fairly smooth.

I'm not saying you won't run into problems though. GL can be very hard to deal with at times but after you learn how the system works and read alot of GL threads on here you will know better how to handle the problems.

I've always suggested to first timers to buy a very inexpensive item their first time. That way if things go bad you won't be out a bunch of money.

The GL pick up experience can be a headache, just don't get in a rush, and don't depend on the directions on the GL web site, when you call the on site GL rep, ask about access procedures. I have only bought from 2 site (maybe a dozen or so items over the last few years), at the local Army base, it seems they change access restrictions every time you turn around. All visitors must to through main gate and stop at side building to get pass, then the next month it is scan your drivers license at the gate, wait a few weeks and all GL pick ups must enter through commercial truck gate (20 miles driving distance around the perimeter from the main gate), then the latest I hear is all GL pick ups must be escorted while on base (they may be changing that now). Add to this an expected wait of 15 minutes to 2 hours at the GL site waiting for them to open the gate and let you in for your pick up after you show up at your appointment time. This may or may not be due to back log of pick ups, I have sat 4 people back in line picking up and been loaded in under an hour, and I have sat around for an hour and a half being the only one in line most of that time watching the GL people randomly drive their fork lifts around then sit around and do nothing before finally letting me in to get my stuff. At another site where I have made a couple of purchases (Hooks, TX) all entry if through the commercial truck gate and its a free for all trying to squeeze in with all the 18 wheelers that all seem to be in a hurry and think the one with the biggest truck goes first. My last pickup there was scheduled for 0900, gate opens at 0700, I arrived at 0615 to go to the office and get my pass to go through the gate. Trucks had been coming in all night and all wanted to get in at 0700, I made it through the gate at with just enough time to make it to the GL site for my scheduled pick up time. (all trucks had to be inspected at the gate, hoods opened, sniffer dogs, mirrors under the bottom, etc.)

FWIW, it can never hurt to bring a dozen high quality donuts for the GL Guys.
