Fitting ByPass Oil Filter

Anyone considered fitting or has fitted a bypass oil filter to a 5 ton?

I did find a thread from '06 but it was on Deuce Mods.

I came across a pic of the Austalian Army's M816's and they had them installed outside the hood, on the fender behind the aircleaner.

There was also additional cooling as a result - not that that is a concern in the States.

Yup - that's the one. Shouldn't be a problem finding the right one I guess, just wondering if anyone has done this with this engine?

The civi 250/290/350 had a remote filter, the head attached where the canister attaches, they had two hoses that went to the spin on filter base, should not be to hard to get the Cummins number, or finding the parts in a truck junk yard. After changing my oil filter This mod was put on my to do list, just have not gotten to it.

Bringing this one back.

Ron. The filter adapter unit you need is for a NH250M motor. Or really any 855 marine engine. It allows for a remote unit. Somewhere else to be mounted. If i can get a marine engine serial number it would be easier

I installed part of my oil filter bypass system today. Got the bracket mounted. And the filter head and i know where i am going to tap into and return it to the motor.

The military NHC250 bypass systems adapted a different plate to the side inspection panel that the transmission lines secure to.
I am going to go back in at the 3/4" pipe plug above it. I am going to pull the oil from the oil cooler port like the military did.

Using #4 Jic fittings so not alot of oil is taken from the engine. Plus the base doesnt have a large hole. Using a luberfiner LFP777B Filter. I am waiting for an XL version to show up. The bypass filter is supposed to be a 6 micron according to luberfiner

The military study said the bypass did remove extra particles but was not cost effective. I believe it will benefit me with the mileage that i run. However since 1990 oil and its design have come a long way //cloud.tapatalk.com/s/588008ffeb9de/a228004.pdf

Ok so i scored a puradyn bypass oil filter kit from Gimpy. Thought i would try it out since it is less than a 1 micron rating element. It also has a heater element of 200 degrees to evaporate any water or fuel vapors out of the oil. The filter also has time release additives to add back to the system. It filters 6 gallons of oil per hour. Dumps back into the block thru a 3/4" hose. I have not wired the heater element up yet. It is a direct bolt in unit. It slid in nicely behind the bracket for the inner fender liner.

Ive been running one for 45,000+ miles. It works great. Ive pushed oil changes to 25k or more. Just changing my spin on oil filter every 6 to 8k.

You still running the Puradyne from Gimpy or did you switch to the FS-2500? And whats the new spin on cost?

Yeah. I just switched the filter on it the other day. The puradyn works great. I just used the FS 2500 as a demonstration video.

I meant spin on filter like what scar59 sells for the nhc250. I just run a baldwin B96SS (severe service) filter on the truck. it is about $12

Out of curiosity what are you getting for temperatures on the auxiliary remote oil filter? All so where is the oil pressure tap, before or after the filter?

In another application on my 3 Ton CMPs with gas engine which have full flow oil filters I went over from oil filter mounted above the the intake and exhaust in the engine box to a larger spin on filter mounted down out of the engine box and noted a very noticeable change in oil temp. It takes nearly an hour of driving to get the oil temp up to the coolant temp. Measuring temps with IR gun. This makes a difference in the oil pressure, at idle as it is a long time before the oil pressure will drop from 42 PSI which is the pump bypass pressure.

With full flow oil filter the oil pressure tap for the manual oil pressure gauge is after the filter wanted to know if the filter was getting plugged.

Mine is tapped in off the oil cooler fitting on the top. The puradyn unit has a metering jet to drop the pressure and flow to 6gph. It then just gravity feeds back to the block port. It is 202 degrees on the bottom of the bypass system that is tp dissipated fuel and water. My overall oil temps are 135 to 140 degrees overall though with my air to air cooler

The oil pressure port is on the opposite side of the engine
