Well Joel the valve is an aircraft fuel shut-off valve (Valcor 5000 series) and it's something I have had for years, but you can use any kind, just about.
The original LDS engines had two valves, one in the "to" and one in the "from" line.
I tested one nozzle and found that it popped open at about 40 psi, so if the fuel pressure gets high enough it will bleed into the intake manifold since it goes right through the pump. It's possible that the nozzle was "tired" and let fuel in at a lower than specified pressure. The little pump in the flame heater system puts out fuel at 90 psi.
There should be no problem with the return line, then again I haven't tested it all yet.
In the image there is a small amount of fine sand in front of the nozzle to show when it popped open.
