FMTV drive shaft yoke puller

Can anyone recommend a good and inexpensive drive shaft yoke puller or something that worked well in its place? I purchased a tiger tool u-joint puller, but don't have anything to pull the yoke off the spine.

Well you can probably make one fairly easily.

heavy wall pipe slightly smaller diameter than the ujoint bearing holes in the yoke.

nut and bolt combination where the nut can be inserted into the pipe(thread passage perpendicular to the pipe length, but cannot rotate in that orientation.

drill perpendicular hole thru pipe far enough from the end to allow the pipe end to just protrude slightly from the yoke opening when the hole is line with the spindle center.

grind slight point on bolt to hold in spindle end depression and protect end threads.

slide pipe into yoke, slide nut into pipe, insert bolt into cross hole and thread into nut. Apply grease to bolt point and screw in untill it engages depression in the end of the spindle

apply pulling tension by tightening bolt against spindle. ”Ring” the yoke assembly with hammer to help free spline engagement as you apply pull force with the bolt…

Subscribed. I tried a huge two jaw puller with heating the yoke and it just laughed at me. Meritor used some kind of super sealant.

does anyone have the tigertool, lisle, or similar puller you would mind measuring for me? diameter (with a precision micrometer if you have it), length, puller screw diameter (5/8", 11/16", 3/4", 7/8", or 1") and length? McMaster sells the puller screws, and for the FMTV we don't need all the other parts that come with the tiger tool or Lisle kits.

I was able to MacGyver a solution by sliding the bar from my two jaw puller which has a 3/4 in screw into a pipe that I found that was 1.625in. It worked in a pinch but I still do want to make a permanent tool for this. Reply who among you would want a yoke puller that doesn't have all those extra unnecessary features that the tiger tool does?

Late to the party but chain hoist. No joke. Put it through the yoke eyelets and wrap it around the other axle. Pull it tight then one firm yank and it will come free (assuming you've removed the nut holding it in place already). I learned this from an old trucker and have been successful for the last 6 years doing it.

while hope no one is ever in bad situation needing to pull that on side of road or trail. If so though maybe a chain binder and breaker bar.. or you own winch up front orr??? could serve the same purpose
