Don't bypass your FDC, test it. All you have to do is unscrew the 4 screws that hold it in place, and lift it up out of the injection pump. Turn on your electricity so that the in tank fuel pump starts to pump, and watch the FDC piston rod. If it starts to drip, you need to bypass your FDC. If it just looks damp, but doesn't drip more than once every five minutes, it is fine. If you bypass the FDC you will have to adjust the IP, and it is very difficult to get the IP adjusted correctly without a test stand. If you bypass the FDC and you don't adjust the IP, your engine will smoke chunks. If you only adjust the smoke screw, you will have trouble starting your truck afterwards.

Also, if you have debris in your oil pan, you have a serious problem that needs fixing. You might get lucky and the engine will continue to run... But usually something even more serious will happen and you will ruin the engine. A line from an old nursery rhyme comes to mind " For the want of a nail a shoe was lost, for the want of a shoe a horse was lost, for the want of a horse, a soldier was lost, and for the want of a soldier, the battle was lost, for the want of the battle, the kingdom was lost..."

Stumps is right on. Gotta replace squirter, seal, find out where spring came from and fix that. I suspect ring too. If you don't, you are playing Russian roulette for sure.

Some pics for you.
#1 is a motor taken apart.
#2 is a closer view.
#3 shows the oil squirter sticking out.

If you need these parts, I have them.

Shoprat, it also sends oil into the rings by way of some holes drilled into the piston at an angle. That's why, if it's gone, the piston it was feeding may be ready to detonate, if it has not already done so. Two birds with one stone, cooling and lubrication at the same time.

Thanks to gimpy rob I have a squirter on the way. Btw check is in the mail. Also figured out HH is leaking. Drove the deuce about 8 miles after we bypassed fdc before I took the pan off and have another couple of gallons of diesel. So I will work on that this weekend and check everything out while the pans off. Thanks again.
