We are currently getting 6-9 inches of snow, so I put mine in 4wd and locked in hubs, sometimes when front brakes lock up and slide on ice I hear a gear grinding noise coming from end of axle, passenger side. Could this just be the lockout splines are worn or the axle end splines? And it only does it once in a while, not every time brakes lock up.Anyone else experience this problem?

Running with one hub locked and one free for sure will tear up the spiders, My wife and I pulled out of the camp one day and I unlocked my side and she "unlocked hers (partaily) front end was torn up inside the 100 miles to the house. It's kinda the same thing as running different size tires on a rear drive axle.

Did the hub and axle look good when you last serviced the wheel bearings?

Never been into it that far. When I did calipers, pads, mastercylinder and hydroboost the rotors and bearings felt good so didn't pull rotors off. I would never leave one axle locked and one free.
