I have an electric fuel pump and have not been using the mechanical pump.

I am installing a block off plate...when removing the oem fuel pump, the rod that pushes the pump slides down to the edge of the block on the inside.

Can the push rod be removed thru the hole in the side of the block that the pump mounts to? Or can i just leave it where it is?

Yes. Remove the fuel pump adapter plate and pull the rod out. You can also leave it in place if you want.

rod removal

It must have a little carbon on it. It has no lip or retention rings, ect.
It is smooth and about 3 3/4 inches long but you must remove it in order to install a blanking plate.
Try turning the engine over by hand to obtain max extension and then grab it with vise grips.
It rides the cam shaft just a lifter does but in a nearly horzontal fashion.
