Fuel tank full of growth

I just pulled the tank off my "parts" deuce. Full of growth. I have removed pump, etc and now need to get all of that growth out. What is the best course of action? Is there anything I can put in there and let soak that will dissolve it? It is pretty bad.

There is many posts within SS about fouled tanks.
They have even been cut apart and refurbished better than NEW

My suggestion is to get it clean then make a "one GTH" filter like I made.
One may permanently install it or mount it on a hand truck. You will never have foulde fuel again. It really screws stuff up.
One may choose to filter down to one micron if one wishes.

We are trying to protect the HH internals, that fine hand lapped surfaces.................

I like. Will Inquire once I get this tank halfway clean. Pure gasoline seems to be dissolving it.

Pressure wash, except in the hottest summer
weather add about 10% gas to the fuel. A little
gas holds microbe grow at bay real good.

It depends on how far you want to go with cleaning.
Drain completely
Wash it out and drain.
wash it out and drain.

pour in some Isopropyl Alcohol 91% and splash it around good, drain and let air dry. done, clean

The Isopropyl Alcohol is the final step for cleansing and being prepped for being put back into service. It will assist in displacing any water, and as you know, it will evaporate away.

Not sure if you’ve already remedied the tank, but I’d suggest removing the tank, pouring everything out and getting about $25 worth of e85 (85% ethanol 15% gas) and dumping in the tank, plug the holes and swish it around. It’ll eat almost anything nasty in that tank, flush it out and reinstall

subscribing! I found algae in my tank last week, too.

You need to determine if it is algae or bio diesel separation from old fuel.
Of course if your not using bio blend or the fuel is relatively fresh, then it could be algae
From water intrusion.

I just went through the bio separation in old fuel.(six months)
The shelf life of biodiesel is pitiful.

Drain the tank and put gas in it and let it soak for a day or so.
Slush it around and rinse.
Also lacquer thinner or xylene also works well.

Best to remove and disassemble the tank, and soak pump, sending
Unit, and filler neck separately in a five gallon bucket.

Then after you get everything clean again. You need to start a regular regimen of adding something like "Bio-Bor" to your fuel. I add some to "every" tank refill. Plus a good injector and fuel injection pump lubricity agent. Every tank fill up !
