Fuel Tanker Convoy

I saw two large convoys on I26 saturday. There were approx. 20 900 series (5 ton) a number of humvees , a few of the deuce replacements and several tractor trailers with Hemmt and other equipment I could not identify. I did ask some national guardsmen about the convoys, I was told they were heading to KY., and that was all they knew.

I wonder if those tankers are 5k or bigger? Cool trucks, maybe I'll buy one in 20yrs when they surplus them.

They look like the 7.5K tankers. That is what the line haul units generally use with the 915's. We would use the 5k tankers with the 931 tractors, more of a tactical setup.

Looks like a Corps level asset unit. BDE and below refueling elements have the 5K's.

Doesn't look like the tractors are Western. Look at the front fenders on the convoy tractors-the top of the fenders are much higher than the wheel cutout. The pic of the Western shows the top of the front fenders following the contour of the tires and very thin similar to a commercial over the road Pete, etc.
