Fun with gear ratio's

Little bored today, so played with my favorite gear ratio/tire/speed calculator. Be sure to leave at least one area blank, if all areas are filled, it won't calculate.

Gasser VS Multi...

Axle 6.72:1 Transfer case 1.98:1 low, 1:1 high.

Gasser tranny 3052
R-7.36 1st-7.55 2nd-4.18 3rd-2.45 4th-1.46 5th-1.00

Multi tranny 3053A
R-4.89 1st-5.13 2nd-2.78 3rd-1.62 4th-1.00 5th-0.79

Engine RPM 400 (gasser) 800 (multi, 650-750 in TM, recommend 800 for less vibration)

40in tire dia(9-20's)

So the Gasser will idle along in 1st gear, low range, at a blazing .5 mph! The multi's idle along at a lighting speed of 1.4 mph.

How about reverse(LOL) Gasser .5 mph, Multi 1.5 mph

So the multifuel is 3 times faster than a gasser....

Another fun fact. Max permissible road speed, according to data plates.
I think I'm correct on the A3, let me know if your data plate says different.

Gasser 60 mph
Multi 56 mph
M35a3 52mph

The newer the truck the slower it runs?

Interesting facts, Dennis!

Add another one: ..... and to be able to reach 52mph the A3's CAT has to rev up close to 2800 rpm, provided there is not much slippage in "D". (that Allison tranny doesn't come with converter lock-up, or ???)

i just pulled my tranny today. data plate clearly says 3052, but i spun the input and fourth gear is definitely 1:1 and fifth is overdrive. i'm assuming this one was converted at some point. does this sound correct?

It has happend to me too. It seems that some times they just forgot to exchange the tag.
