working on a 1984 m009.for some unknown reason the top fuse in the fuse panel decided to melt and weld itself to the plastic fuse housing.now have no blower fan and the front battery in not charging.the blower fan is no big deal, but the charging is.i believe from what i have read here the charging for the drivers alt.runs through that fuse.i can get the alt to work by reving the engine after startup and it will charge until key is shut off .anyone know of a fix other the changing the underdash harness.

Your right that the alternator circuit is tied to blower circuit. The first step would be to find what caused the short. Then you might be able to repair fuse block or trim off melted parts and seal. Changing the harness is not too bad a job, but time consuming. One of the vendors here who parts out CUCVs probably has one.

Check blower motor to see it that is fried, also check blower motor resistor. Mice in heater can cause problems with these.

Some one will ask you to use capital letters when appropriate and punctuate better, just so you know.

One of the usual culprits is the heater switch in the dash. But I haven't heard of it melting the fuse box. Always something new.

The headlight fuse is usually the one fuse that melts the housing.

Yes the GEN1 exciter circuit uses the Heater fuse for its power.

2002ford is parting out a M1009 and may have a good harness. Also check with Hawkman and HillbillyWizard. Replacing the harness is a couple hour job. Not much to it.
