I get a lot more than that in my A2 - 10 - 12 mpg with the top off, but you have a lot more wind resistance in the 109. I found it also makes a lot of difference in the mpg due to speed.

Mine does about 10-12 also doing around 45-50. but I also run 50/50 (Oil/Diesel) sometimes more oil than 50%.

Mine runs out,still has 4 or 5 inches of fuel.Just pour the 5 gallons out the jerry can in the tank.I think it gets 10 or 11 mpg's.When I restart have never had to crank more than 3 time,she fire right up.With the pedal to the floor.

running a deuce out of feul is VERY hard on the ip.

My M185 gets 8-9mpg (straight diesel) on the highway at 52mph average, which is less than the M35 gets. There is a lot of wind resistance from the box, and these trucks are much heavier than the cargo version.

It only happen once when I first got the truck,checked it with stick thought I had plenty.
Then my uncle was driving it,I told him it stopped running at 1/4 on the gauge.We was on the way to Fort Knox to pick up trailer.We stopped in the middle of nowhere,3 or 4
in the morning,dark.Since then I have replaced sending unit.

I flat towed an M35 from Albany Ga to the exit for SR44 in Florida on I-75. I say the exit because I could not make to the station. 246 miles on one full tank in the M109! I could run 60 mph on the interstate on the flats. Maybe that's way it used so much. I'm guessing that was about 6 mpg. I maxed out the spending limit on the card for fuel before we got them home. A buddy was driving a second M35 behind me, had to out fuel in that too.

62 gallons (55 gal old JP8 & 7 gal WMO)
4.17 MPG
Top Speed: 52 MPH
Avg. Speed: 37 MPH
I know the filters were bad, the fuel was dirty, and the deuce in tow was heavier than the vehicle towing. Still..not bad for 30K lbs of rolling steel.

M35A3 w/w - 2500 lbs in bed, with cargo cover, towing 3000 lb trailer:
Just back: 7500 miles - Alaska, Yukon, BC, Arctic Circle (1100 miles of dirt and rock and chuck holes).

No it's not.
Or maybe it is. OR maybe not.
You don't know what it is.
The ONLY way to know your fuel mileage is to start with a full tank, record the miles driven, THEN the fuel added at the end of the trip.
If you are going by any other method you don't know what mileage you are getting. There are too many places to get it wrong any other way.
And one trip doesn't tell you much because even when doing it right, there are variables. Temperature of fuel you pumped, level of tank each time (do you measure either of those?), etc.
Keep a log, or you really don't know what your mileage is, you are just fooling yourself.
If you have an Android smart phone, look up an app called aCar. It's the most well-written piece of software I have ever seen. Really excellent for keeping ALL your automotive records, and yes, it does multiple vehicles. I bougth the pro version, buteven the free version is terrific.

On the way to last year's GA rally, I had about 2500 pounds in the bed, drove 45-47 MPH and I got 11.76 MPG in my M35A2 on straight diesel fuel.

Depending on the type of fuel I ran in mine, I usually got 300 miles to a full tank and that's with out running it out of fuel. Usually at this point, the fuel in the tank was about an inch from the bottom of my strainer. My sending unit and gauge went to crap, so I just go by eyeballing my tank. Did seem to get better results using wmo, probly cause I don't push it as hard as with diesel.
