hello all, I know it has been a while but I had a friend ask me a question I did not have the answer to. He is looking at a 1953 5ton gasser crane truck. After looking at the carb, I see there is a lower outlet which is plumbed directly into each port of the intake manifold. is this a primer? he was thinking it may be the outlet of a compensater for multifuel (looks like diesel injection going onto the manifold!)) I assured him it wasnt...but the question remains...what is it? I just saw a photo which had them plugged on a multifuel conversion. Thanks

Early R6602's had a primer setup that injected (by hand pressure pump) raw gas directly into the intake. I assume this is what is on the 1953 truck in question. No multi fuels until mid 60's.

Same hand primer kit was available as part of winterization kit for M38s, M37, M35s etc.. basically a pump mounted in dashboard with a knob like a shifter handle (similar to the Cummins 800) and little nozzles with spray heads in the intake manifold. to get vaporized gas to engine... very simple way to flood it if you are not careful...ACE

Well I don't have to worry about mine . I do not have a hand primer, just a pull out handle for shut down. Instructions : when shutting off engine pull out till engine quits then, turn off ignition switch. Mine is a 1953 IHC M139 gasser Bridge truck flat bed with stake sides OSO

That is a degasser... used to prevent the engine from running on after ignition is shut off.. No relation to the hand primer the above posts refer to... The later Carb made by Zenith did not have that feature.. ACE
