GEN 1 light not working

check your blackout light switches and fuses. The only relation to changing an alt and lights are not working is either you left off grounds somewhere.
You did not disconnect both batts before work and sparked something and blew some fuses possibly put 24v though black out switch and messed it up.

it is you first post and we know nothing about your truck so you might want to introduce yourself and give a lot more info on what you are driving and the condition it is in.

With engine not running turn key into on position. If the Gen 1 light is not working reach up under the dash cluster and wiggle the bulb connection. Exchange it for Gen 2 see if that helps. It may also be a burnt fusible link or a loose connection at the alternator. Check it out closely. I hope that helps. Good Luck.
