Gen 1 question

I have read all the very informative posts on the charging system. I have been having an issue with gen 1 not working. The previous owner, a fire department at a state park sold it with this issue. They couldn't figure it out. My question is, the brown wire has power when unplugged, but not when it is plugged in. Is this normal? I have fixed a few wiring and bulb issues and tomorrow will start it and see if it is charging. It just seemed odd that the wire loses power when plugged in. Short internally?

Missed your post.

more than likely it is a bad voltage regulator.

I would suggest a rebuild of the alternators since you do not know their status.

Actually, the alternators are new. I managed to get the driver side charging. The pass side light stays on. I have power where I should, so some how they burned that one out. This weekend I am going to pull it out and tear it down. I have spent hours reading your posts and must say I have learned quite a bit. Thanks!
