Gillespie Paint KY group buy

I know we've had a lot of people recover trucks from Frankfort lately and Knox lately, and many of them are Kentucky members. I've been looking at Gillespie paint to re-paint mine, and although the paint is reasonable, the HAZMAT and shipping fees are high. The supplier suggests that significant savings can be realized on shipments of 10 gallons or more. I expect to need about 3.

I'm in the Louisville area but I do travel around the state a lot for work. Southern Indiana, too. If you're interested in getting together to split and save the shipping and HAZMAT fees on some Gillespie paint, reply to this thread or IM me.

I'm in no big hurry, not painting in this cold of course!

Thanks.

Army Jeep Parts Inc., O.D. Paint, Gillespie Coatings Inc. manufactured.

I"m in.

Put me down for 4 gallons. I guess I need to figure out what color huh?

Like you, I travel around the state a lot, and we could meet somewhere.

I'm also not in a big hurry.

If you buy it from Rapco it will be slightly cheaper and will be fresh paint. They sell alot of it. Also, I am pretty sure once you get 4 gallons, the shipping fees/hazmat fees are going to restart with the next 4 gallons so you won't save anything by doing a group buy. They may have changed policy but I doubt it.

Read the link, man. 10 gallons or more they ship by common carrier (truckline) not UPS.

I traded e-mails with a rep from the company I linked in the OP. He suggested we shoot for 12 gallons minimum to get the best price, because the info on their homepage is somewhat dated. He is going to give me a quote, including freight, to my office (commercial location) for 12 and 20 gallons.

He said the paint itself would be $34 a gallon.

I heard back from the Rep he said $135 shipping for either 12 gallons or 20 gallons. I say we shoot for 20, that way shipping is only $6.75 per gallon making it $40.75 per gallon including freight--pretty reasonable!

I'm thinking probably around beginning of March we order. I would want to have money in-hand when I place the order and you can either pick up your paint when it comes in or else we can talk about when I might be able to bring it closer to you depending on where you are.

So if you're interested get on board maybe we can even top 20 gallons, we'll see!

Edit: of course the freight quote could change a little over the next 2 months but I think it's a good guideline.

OK, so everyone in KY is bringing their truck to JCKnife's house.

What day do you want us?

My wife would completely freak out.

How about next weekend?

Seriously though, I'm all for getting together. I know one of the first places I want to go when my truck is drivable is Knob Creek. I'm sure there are other places we could get together, too.

It may not be accurate, but I like that color more too personally.
I have nothing against the wrong color. I am just pointing it out if his goal is to be historically accurate, it would be the wrong color.

Another thing worth mentioning is to take precautions when sanding CARC. I have seen an MSDS on it and it is nasty stuff. Wear respirator etc.
